Anti-Semitic Speech Seen Several Times in Petaluma and Over Highway 101 Overpasses
Hate speech is becoming a problem in Petaluma. Police have reported several hate-related incidents that occurred on Sunday. First, a group held a anti-Semitic banner over the Highway 101 East Washington Street overpass. Later, the same people were reported placing flyers containing anti-Semitic rhetoric on parked vehicles in the East Washington Place shopping center. Then on Sunday night, the same group were holding the same banner at the Caulfield Lane overpass on Highway 101. Petaluma Police are reviewing incidents but have yet to determine any criminal violations.
Rohnert Park Man Convicted of Torturing Foster Children
A man has been convicted of torturing three foster children he brought into his home in Rohnert Park. On Tuesday, a jury found Jose Centeno guilty on eleven charges. That includes three counts each of torture and kidnapping for ransom. He was also convicted of eight counts related to the rape and sexual abuse of one of the victims, a woman who is now about 20-years-old. One of the children, Kaya, disappeared under his care in 2012. She would be 22 today. Centeno will be sentenced on August 27th. He and his wife, Gina Centeno, were arrested in August of 2020, each accused of torturing the children in their home for nearly a decade. Gina Centeno would have gone on trial but died in January.
Police Arrest 21-Year-Old Over Saturday Robbery Of Rideshare Driver
A 21-year-old man from Sonoma was arrested on suspicion of robbing a rideshare driver at gunpoint over the weekend, the county sheriff's office said. Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a robbery around 9:45 p.m. Saturday near Riverside Drive and Kelsey Court in El Verano, just outside of the city of Sonoma. The rideshare driver reported dropping off a customer who went into a residence and allegedly returned outside brandishing what appeared to be a firearm, police said.
