Charles City to Join North Central Conference
The North Central Conference will soon be going from eight members to nine as Charles City will join the conference beginning in the 2025-2026 school year, following a mediation process that included the Iowa High School Athletic Association, Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union, and Iowa Department of Education, a process that ultimately resulted in an agreement between the NCC and Charles City being reached.
Nashua Woman Among 20 Compete On Live Lottery Game Show At Iowa State Fair
Three North Iowans are among the 20 contestants who will compete on a live lottery game show at the 2024 Iowa State Fair with a chance to win up to $5 million. The Iowa Lottery says they received more than 67,000 entries into their “Fair Fever” promotion that will conclude with the game show on opening day of this year’s Iowa State Fair. Contestants slated to play include Michelle Cerwinske of Nashua, Ryan Habeger of Algona, and Scott Stewart of Waterloo.
New Hampton scores nine runs in sixth inning to advance via mercy rule
New Hampton flipped the script from a tight, low-scoring affair to a mercy rule finish, beating Aplington-Parkersburg 11-1 in six innings. The Chickasaws scored two runs in the first inning, and after the Falcons cut the lead to one run in the top of the sixth, New Hampton responded with nine runs in the bottom of the inning to end Aplington-Parkersburg's first state baseball tournament in program history via mercy rule.
