Caitlin’s ESPY Awards Nominations & Other Notable Nominations

PEOPLE reports that Caitlin Clark received three ESPY Award nominations this year for her contributions to the University of Iowa’s women’s basketball team.

According to ESPN’s press release, Clark is nominated for Best Athlete, Best Recording-Breaking Performance, and Best College Athlete.

ESPN has scheduled the live airing of the 2024 ESPY Awards for July 11 at 8 pm EST on ABC. Tennis legend Serena Williams will serve as the host for the annual ceremony. The event will celebrate the year’s highlights, honor top athletes and performances, and unite fan favorites and sports stars.

Clark Responds To Exclusion From Olympic Basketball Team

Earlier this month, Clark made headlines when she reacted to not making the final U.S. Olympic women’s basketball team cut. The Indiana Fever rookie responded by saying that the news didn’t disappoint her.

“Honestly, no disappointment. It just gives me something to work for; it’s a dream. Hopefully one day I can be there. I think it’s just a little more motivation. You remember that. Hopefully when four years comes back around, I can be there.”

According to ESPN, the basketball player also expressed excitement about supporting the women’s team heading to the Paris Olympics despite not making the team herself.

“I’m excited for the girls that are on the team, I know it’s the most competitive team in the world and I know it could have gone either way — me being on the team or me not being on the team. I’m going to be rooting them on to win gold. I was a kid that grew up watching the Olympics, so it will be fun to watch them,” Caitlin said.

The sports outlet mentioned that this year’s selection did not include any player under 26; Caitlin, who turned 22 in January, was the No. 1 WBNA pick, a position usually considered for Olympic inclusion in previous years.

The Paris Olympics will take place from July 26 to August 11.
