Last week brought a ton of great performances from high school softball and baseball ahead of the start of district and substate play this week.
The stat sheets throughout both sports were filled with standout performances.
Here are the nominees for the Iowa City Press-Citizen’s high school Athletes of the Week for July 1-7. Press-Citizen.com readers vote to decide this week’s winners. Voting closes at 8 p.m. on Thursday.

Girls
Mackenzie Dvorsky, Sr., Iowa City High
Mackenzie Dvorsky provided a big spark during Iowa City High's 5-2 win over Clear Creek Amana on July 1.
Dvorsky went 1-for-3 with two RBIs. She also homered and drove in a run.
Izzy Frees, Jr., Solon
Izzy Frees turned in a strong performance during Solon’s 10-0 shutout over Anamosa on July 1.
Frees went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBIs and two doubles.
Kaelyn Rickels, Jr., Liberty
Kaelyn Rickels pitched a shutout during Liberty's 7-0 win over Maquoketa on July 1.
Rickels threw seven complete innings, giving up four hits with five strikeouts in the win. She holds a 5-0 record as a starting pitcher this season.
Lizzie Pasbrig, Soph., Clear Creek Amana
Lizzie Pasbrig was a huge playmaker during CCA's 11-6 win over Washington on July 3.
Pasbrig went 2-for-4 with five RBIs, a run and a homer in the win.
Haley Schroeder, Sr., Liberty
Haley Schroeder was a power hitter during Liberty's 7-2 win over Maquoketa on July 1.
In the first game of the doubleheader, Schroeder went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a run.
Boys
Liam Bender, Sr., Liberty
Liam Bender had a great day at the plate during Liberty’s 11-1 win over Dubuque Hempstead on July 1.
Bender went 2-for-3 with four RBIs, a triple and a run in the blowout win.
Kael Kurtz, Sr., Iowa City High
Kael Kurtz delivered an explosive performance during Iowa City High’s 7-6 win over Mason City on July 1.
Kurtz went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, a run and a homer in the win over Riverhawks.
Zach Logsdon, Sr., Iowa City West
Zach Logsdon made things happen while at-bat during Iowa City West’s 5-3 win over Cedar Falls on July 1.
Logsdon earned two RBIs with one hit at the plate.
Maclane Morgan, Jr., Clear Creek Amana
Maclane Morgan played a dual-threat game during CCA’s 12-0 shutout over Fairfield on July 3.
Morgan went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, double and a run. He earned four strikeouts and allowed just one hit on the mound for the Clippers.
Garret Stebral, Sr., Solon
Garret Stebral provided a spark during Solon’s 5-3 win over Iowa City West on July 3.
Stebral went 1-for-2 with two RBIs to help the Spartans earn their 25th win of the season.
