    Multiple Hawkeyes Selected in 2024 MLB Draft

    (Iowa City, IA) – Multiple Hawkeyes have been selected in the 2024 MLB Draft. Sam Petersen was selected in the eighth round of the MLB draft and both Jack Young and Marcus Morgan have been selected in the ninth round of the MLB Draft.

    Sam Petersen officially has been drafted by the Chicago White Sox as the 230th overall pick in the draft. Petersen marks the 31st player drafted under head coach Rick Heller after hitting .333 in 33 games for Iowa with 42 hits, 11 doubles, two triples, and five home runs. In his career at Iowa, he appeared in 133 games with a .305 overall batting average. In total, he had 134 hits, scored 123 runs, hit 27 doubles, and knocked 22 home runs. The Huxley, Iowa native was a key baserunner with 40 stolen bases to mark on his career alongside other accolades.

    Hawkeye Jack Young was also selected by the Chicago White Sox in the ninth round of the MLB Draft as the 259th overall pick. Young is the 32nd player drafted under coach Heller and finished fourth in the Big Ten regular season standings and the ninth straight Big Ten Tournament appearance. In his season with the Hawkeyes, he finished with a team-best 2.76 ERA with a 2-1 record and struck out 47 batters on the year.

    Iowa’s Marcus Morgan was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the ninth round as the 282nd overall pick to be the 33rd pick under coach Heller. The Iowa City native had a 2-4 record with 16 appearances while tallying 64 strikeouts over 54.1 innings. Morgan played in 43 career games for Iowa with a 7-6 record and a 5.67 ERA while striking out 162 in 31 games of work for Iowa throughout his career.
