Mason Waterbury, Cecilia Sterba are Press-Citizen's Athletes of the Week

Iowa City Liberty baseball player Mason Waterbury and Iowa City West softball player Cecilia Sterba were voted by Press-Citizen readers as the Athletes of the Week for July 8-14.

Waterbury won boys Athlete of the Week with 33% of the vote. Solon baseball player Brett White placed second with 25% of the vote.

Waterbury tallied 13 strikeouts during Liberty's 2-0 win over Waterloo East In the first round of substate action on July 12. The Liberty junior pitched a complete game and held the Trojans scoreless.

Sterba took home girls Athlete of the Week with 34% of the vote, edging out Mischa Reiners of Iowa City Liberty softball who earned 31% of the vote.

Sterba went 2-for-2 with two RBIs during Iowa City West's 13-3 loss to Marshalltown in the first round of regionals on July 11. She also homered and drove in a run.
