Iowa City Regina announced Mark Roering as the school's next head baseball coach on Tuesday.

Roering helped the Regals become state runners-up in 1994 as an assistant coach while studying at the University of Iowa. He spent the last nine years as the head baseball coach at Dowling Catholic, where he helped the Maroons make six state tournament appearances. During that stretch, the Maroons finished as state runners-up in three seasons (2017, 2022, 2024).

“We’re very excited to welcome Coach Roering back to Regina,” activities director Taylor Hotek said in a press release. “Mark has a track record of success on the field, but more importantly, he values the growth and development of his players, both as athletes and as individuals. His experience and leadership will be a great addition to our community.”

Roering compiled a record of 285-104 in his nine years at Dowling. He'll look to lead a Regina baseball program that's posted a losing record in three of the past four seasons. The Regals finished with a 14-19 record last season.

"I am very excited to be chosen as the next head baseball coach at Regina High School," Roering said. "I look forward to being part of a great program and helping the next generation of Regals be successful on and off the field."
