    Meet the nominees for the Press-Citizen's Athletes of the Week, Sept. 23-29

    It was another action-filled week of high school sports in the Iowa City area this past week.

    Here are the nominees for the Iowa City Press-Citizen's high school Athletes of the Week for Sept. 23-29. Press-Citizen.com readers vote to decide this week's winners. Voting closes at 8 p.m. on Thursday.

    Players are listed in alphabetical order by last name.

    Boys

    Cody Milliman, Soph. Solon

    Milliman made big plays during Solon's 26-7 victory over Grinnell on Friday, Sept. 27.

    The second-year Spartan earned his first interception of the season against the Tigers. He also made two receptions for 20 yards.

    Conlan Poynton, Jr., Clear Creek Amana

    Poynton was a touchdown machine during CCA's 32-13 victory over Oskaloosa on Friday, Sept. 27.

    The dual-threat playmaker racked up 234 all-purpose yards and five touchdowns, with four scores on the ground. Poynton tallied 28 carries for 102 rushing yards. He also completed 14 of 20 passes with a 70% passing completion percentage.

    Parker Sutherland, Sr., Iowa City High

    Parker Sutherland and Iowa City High football would not be denied during a 43-42 win over Cedar Rapids Kennedy on Thursday, Sept. 26.

    For the second week in a row, the Little Hawks depended on a go-ahead two-point conversation to clinch a win, and Sutherland was there to play hero in the final minute. He caught a pass from Bobby Bacon to help City High improve to 3-2 on the season.

    Kyle Tracy, Jr., Regina Catholic

    Tracy led Regina's offensive effort in a 21-7 win over Cascade on Friday, Sept. 27.

    Tracy completed 11 of 19 passes for 157 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 82 yards on 11 carries and a touchdown for the Regals.

    Mason Waterbury, Sr., Iowa City Liberty

    Waterbury made big defensive plays during Liberty's 26-21 win over Prairie on Friday, Sept. 27.

    The fourth-year Lightning recovered a fumble against the Hawks. He also made four tackles, including two tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks.

    Girls

    Emma Fish, Sr., Iowa City West

    Fish added 10 digs to her defensive resume during Iowa City West's win over Western Dubuque on Tuesday, Sept. 24.

    Fish tacked on two assists on offense and an ace.

    Hattie Galloway, Soph., Iowa City High

    Galloway came up big on offense during City High's win over Dubuque Hempstead on Tuesday, Sept. 24.

    The middle hitter totaled a team-high 12 kills with a .632 efficiency. She tacked on four blocks and a dig.

    Kylie Koehn, Sr., Clear Creek Amana

    Koehn earned a team-high 11 digs during CCA's win over Williamsburg on Tuesday, Sept. 24.

    The defensive specialist averaged 3.7 digs per set. She also posted two assists against the Raiders.

    Caitlin Martin, Sr., Regina Catholic

    Martin earned 22 digs in Regina's win over West Liberty on Thursday, Sept. 26.

    Martin finished with 5.5 digs per set, the second best on the team. The outside hitter also earned four kills against the Comets.

    Edie Miller, Soph., Iowa City Liberty

    Miller earned a team-high 29 digs during Liberty's win over Linn-Mar on Tuesday, Sept. 24.

    The second-year Lightning totaled 7.3 digs per set. Miller also added 10 assists to her offensive resume.
