    Regina High School's Caitlyn Bell is the Press-Citizen's Student of the Week

    Caitlyn Bell, a junior at Regina Catholic High School, is the Press-Citizen's newest Student of the Week.

    Bell received 54.37% of the 9,410 total votes. Grace Hoeper, a senior from Solon High School, followed closely behind with 42.66%.

    Bell is a dual-sport athlete in cross country and volleyball while maintaining a heavy courseload of five Advanced Placement courses. Bell helps lead Regina's Interact Club and Book Club. She is also involved with Dance Marathon, Blue Crew, I'm Glad You Stayed, and the National Honor Society. Bell attended the Congress of Future Medical Leaders in Boston this past summer and logged more than 100 hours volunteering at the Food Bank and serving lunches at Neighborhood Centers of Johnson County.

    This week's poll closed Thursday, Oct. 3. A new Student of the Week poll will go live on Monday, Oct.7.

    This week's Student of the Week nominees

    The Student of the Week poll honors Johnson County students for outstanding academic achievements and community service.

    Principals and faculty from the Iowa City Community School District high schools (City High, West High, and Liberty High), Solon Community School District, and Regina Catholic High School can nominate one student to participate in the poll each week.

    Hailey Faulkon, Clear Creek Amana

    Hailey Faulkon is a senior at Clear Creek Amana High School. Throughout Faulkon's high school career, she has played a major role in the Unified PE program, specifically dedicating plenty of time to the level three special education program.

    Grace Hoeper, Solon High School

    Grace Hoeper is a senior at Solon High School. In addition to being a standout on the swim team, Hoeper excels in the classroom and maintains a positive attitude each day.

    Yashaswi Jaishy, Iowa City Liberty High School

    Yashaswi Jaishy is a senior at Iowa City Liberty High who excels in the classroom and in her extracurricular activities. Jaishy is one of the top students in the class of 2025 and is currently enrolled in all advanced placement and post-secondary enrollment option (PSEO) courses.

    Thanh Le, Iowa City High School

    Thanh Le is a senior at City High. He has been an enthusiastic student who is wonderful to work with and dedicated to being a lifelong learner. Le always works with other students, encouraging them to do better and try their best.

    About Student of the Week

    Student of the Week is a weekly contest throughout the academic year. Polls will open on Mondays and close on Thursdays. Students from public and private high schools in the Iowa City area are eligible to participate.
