Central Iowa has a few more rounds of severe storms to deal with in the next few days ahead. We’re set up in a very active weather pattern so the trend will continue through at least Tuesday late night.

Most of Monday will be quiet with more sun and warmth. This will help fuel the development of storms firing up late tonight from 8 PM on in western Iowa.

A complex of storms from Nebraska will also be pushing east and the combination of the two will bring heavy rain across Iowa through the overnight into early Tuesday morning. Most of the rain will fall across the northern half of the state. A few storms may produce damaging winds in the morning hours.

We will get some partial clearing mid-day on Tuesday. This will lead to more heating and destabilization of the atmosphere ahead of a fast-moving cold front that will swing across the state extending from the strong low-pressure center moving across the Dakotas and Minnesota.

Along this line will be supercells initially and our atmosphere has good shear with height. That leads to a good potential of storms spinning up a few tornadoes if enough recovery of the atmosphere from the morning storms is able to take place. These storms look to fire up in western Iowa around 2 PM, cross the Metro around 4 PM and be in eastern Iowa by 6 PM, so it will be a very fast-moving line of storms.
