    Multiple Iowans Earn Spot on U.S. Olympic Team While Others Advance to Semifinals

    (Eugene, OR) – As the U.S. Olympic trials continue, multiple Iowans have claimed spots on the 2024 United States Olympic Team. While many have earned a spot, multiple athletes are still advancing to the semifinals that take place on Saturday.

    Two former Drake Relays alumni have jumped onto the Olympic team. In the 110-meter Hurdles, Daniel Roberts, former 2021 Drake Relays champion, earned third with a personal-best 12.96 to make his second straight Olympic team. Alongside Roberts, Freddit Crittenden placed second in the race with a time of 12.93 as he made his first Olympic team. He formally was a Drake Relays participant in 2017 and 2018.

    In the Women’s 100-meter Hurdles, Paige Magee of Iowa ran a time of 13.41 to advance to the semifinal. Former Des Moines Roosevelt High School athlete Lolo Jones ran a 14.86 second time to advance to the semifinal. In the Men’s Triple Jump, former Iowa athlete James Carter jumped 54-6 to advance to the finals on Sunday. Former Iowa athlete, Brittany Brown, will now advance to the finals in the Women’s 200-meter after running 22.08. Former Indian Hills Community College runner and former Olympic Silver Medalist, Kenny Bednarek, will advance to the Men’s 200-meter dash final after running 19.96 while Courtney Lindsey, formally of Iowa, will also advance to the finals after running 20.05.

    Jumping over to the Women’s 1500-meter semifinal, former UNI Panther Alexina Teubel, ran a time of 4:09.16 and will not advance to the finals. Former Logan-Magnolia Panther, Alex Gochenour-Brondyke, did not start in the Women’s 100-meter hurdles and will not advance to the semifinals. In the Men’s 800-meter semifinal, Darius Kipyego of Iowa State will not advance to the finals after running 1:45.50. Former UNI Panther, Brandon Carnes, will also not advance to the 200-meter finals after running 20.85.

    The finals begin today for multiple sprinting events while the long-distance finals continue on Sunday.
