(Des Moines, IA) — A new law in Iowa regulating THC in products takes effect today. The law caps the amount of THC allowed per serving and container. It requires products with THC to be labeled with health risk advisories and prohibits individuals under 21 from purchasing such products. The Department of Health and Human Services will establish rules related to packaging and labeling, with guidelines expected to be finalized after the law takes effect.

Eight more companies are suing the State of Iowa in federal court over the new hemp law, which restricts the level of THC in consumables to four milligrams per serving. The suit says the new law puts consumable hemp product manufacturers in legal limbo as new business regulations from the state over the matter aren’t expected until July 17th.

Some companies, like The Happy Can, are frustrated by the changing regulations and plan to remove products from Iowa shelves while seeking clarity on compliance.
