Peru thanks Supervisor McDonald for solid leadership
PERU | Peru Town Supervisor Brandy McDonald met with his town's leadership team for the last time on Monday, July 29, thanking all for their dedication and friendship. Having served first on the town council for 11 years and the past six-and-a-half as supervisor, McDonald is stepping away from office as he and his wife move from Peru to the City of Plattsburgh. Their new home is closer to her new position at SUNY Plattsburgh.
New York state police recruit tried taking training officer’s loaded gun, officials said
Cazenovia, N.Y. — A recruit for the New York State Police was charged after trying to take a training officer’s loaded gun last week. The recruit, Jose L. Valeriano, 22, was meeting around 10 p.m. last Tuesday, July 23, with Trooper Cory Sprague when he started acting “erratically” and lunged for Sprague’s gun, according to Beau Duffy, a state police spokesperson.

Brattleboro man accused of making threats with a pellet gun, drug possession
Brattleboro, VT- Police in Brattleboro say a man was making threats with a gun that was later revealed to be a pellet gun resembling a rifle. The incident happened at the Quality Inn on Putney Road around 11 a.m. on Monday. Bobby Jones, 47, from Brattleboro, was arrested and that’s when police determined the rifle wasn’t real.

An Upstate New York-based insurance company appears to be going out of business as it urges customers to find a new carrier. “We regret to inform our agents and policyholders that our financial position has continued to deteriorate,” Adirondack Insurance Exchange said on its website. “We urge all current customers to begin working with their independent agent to secure new coverage with a rated carrier, immediately.”
