University of Vermont researchers study impact of flooding on Lake Champlain water quality
University of Vermont scientists studying Lake Champlain are assessing changes in water quality following recent flooding in Vermont. Numerous rivers empty into Lake Champlain and scientists are measuring water clarity as floodwaters empty into the 100-mile-long lake. The Lake Champlain Basin Program and Lake Champlain Sea Grant hosted cruises on the University of Vermont research vessel recently for officials to observe a plume of turbid water extending into the lake.

A new biography on early Vermont trailblazer Ira Allen is slated for release on Sept. 13. It is the first published book on Allen to come out in nearly a century. While Allen might be most well-known for his influence in landing the University of Vermont in Burlington, he also at one point in time, owned virtually all of Colchester. On paper, he was also Colchester’s first-ever town clerk.

Man faces multiple drug trafficking charges in Waterbury
WATERBURY — Vermont authorities arrested a Massachusetts man on Thursday afternoon following a lengthy investigation into illegal drug distribution in Washington County. Rafael Santos, 37, from Springfield, was taken into custody by the Vermont Drug Task Force in collaboration with the Vermont State Police Berlin Barracks at 1159 Ripley Road.

Three days later, her doctor confirmed the worst: she had thyroid cancer, with tumors on her lymph nodes and one on the thyroid itself. All of King’s plans for the album came to a screeching halt. Drag story hour makes a splash in Bristol
BRISTOL— From a child’s point of view, it might have been that two fairies manifested from a secret garden and made their way to the local library. This is pretty close to what happened in reality. Emoji Nightmare and Katniss Everqueer, two local drag queens currently co-directing the Drag Story Hour Vermont Chapter, had launched their 2024 Rural Outreach Program from April to July with the help of the Samara Fund at the Vermont Community Foundation. That fund allowed them to read stories to kids at eight rural libraries.
