    1 dead after plane crash in Yankton Co. bean field

    YANKTON, S.D. (KCAU) — One person is dead after a plane crashed into a Yankton County bean field Wednesday morning.

    The Yankton County Sheriff’s Office said on social media that first responders were called around 7:48 a.m. near the intersection of 449th Avenue and 298th Street, about three miles southwest of Irene, for a plane crash. Responders arrived to the scene to find one person dead.

    The victim’s identity is not being released at this time.

    The sheriff’s office said it is working with the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.

    The public is being asked to stay clear of the area, with the sheriff’s office saying barricades have been set up and deputies will remain on scene.

    Yankton County EMS, Irene Fire Department, Irene First Responders, Volin Fire Department and the South Dakota Criminal Investigations responded to the scene.
