Town in Texas sets record with outrageous May temperature

A town in the south of Texas has seemingly recorded the hottest ever May temperature in Texas ' history with a "mind-blowing" and "dangerous" temperature .

La Puerta , which is in the deep south of Texas, just west of the Rio Grande Valley population center, reportedly reached 116 degrees on Thursday.

This was by far the hottest place in the country on that day, and it could well be the hottest that anywhere in the state of Texas has ever been in the month of May, according to the data available.

This is according to the Weather Prediction Center, who have been recording temperatures in the US since 1942, though it would be impossible to say whether or not this is officially the hottest May temparture in Texas' history.

Either way, 116 degrees is an extraordinary temperature, to the point that safety warnings have been issued.

In extreme heat like what Texas experienced last week, people are urged to use air conditoning or a fan where possiblee. On top of that, people should wear light and loose-fitting clothees, and take regular cool showers.

The most important thing, however, is to remain hydrated.
