Rory McIlroy, the Northern Irish golf ace, has been seen soaking up the sun in Portugal with his American wife, Erica Stoll, following their recent marital turbulence .

Erica, mother to McIlroy's daughter, was notably absent from the Open on Friday but joined her hubby for the family getaway.

And despite their recent issues, which saw the golfer file for divorce before changing his mind, Erica was wearing her enormous engagement ring .

The ring is valued at $650,000 (£512,500), and is a massive oval ring on a pave diamond band in platinum.

The pair, who share a holiday home in Portugal, kept it casual in tees and shorts on their holiday, with Rory later stripping off for a swim in the sea.

This sighting follows comments from Rory McIlroy's former agent, Andrew "Chubby" Chandler, hinting that Rory's personal life could be affecting his performance on the course.

McIlroy, who's been without a major win for a decade, struggled at Royal Troon after his collapse at Pinehurst.

The golf community was shocked when Rory and Erica Stoll paused their divorce process right before the US Open, despite Rory filing the previous month citing an "irretrievably broken" marriage.

After clinching the Wells Fargo Championship on May 12, McIlroy made moves to dissolve his marriage, but the couple have reconciled, looking to leave their troubles behind
