Taco Bell is taking a leap into the future with their plans to install AI order-taking systems , as parent company Yum! Brands advances their "Voice AI" technology venture.

After successful trials at more than 100 drive-thru locations across America, they're looking to expand this high-tech feature to "hundreds" by the end of the year, according to a press release from Yum! detailed in The Verge.

This move is set to lessen staff burdens and improve both accuracy and service speed, a benefit not only for Taco Bell but also the wider Yum! Brands network and its franchise owners. Meanwhile, Wendy's has given a positive nod to its AI experiments, whilst McDonald's appears to be reticent on pursuing comparable tech-based endeavors.

With an expansive presence of over 7,400 stores in the US, Taco Bell's AI adoption might just be the beginning of the broader transformation of the fast-food industry, according to Bloomberg.

Not stopping at the US borders, the Voice AI initiative is reportedly making its way down under to five KFC stores in Australia, another investment by Yum! Brands in the food tech arena.
