Fresh off her Olympic victory, Imane Khelif had a decisive take on the controversies surrounding the boxing event in Paris.

"I am fully qualified. I am a woman like any other woman," the boxer - who was raised in Algeria - asserted. "I was born a woman, I lived as a woman, I competed as woman - there is no doubt."

Khelif claimed an undeniable win over China's Liu Yang despite causing gender controversy at this year's Olympics , securing the unanimous verdict after a bout, culminating in her triumphant parade around the arena holding the gold for the women's 66kg category.

The 25-year-old reveled in the support of "Imane, Imane" chants from the Algerian supporters who filled Roland Garros for the climax of the event. Khelif outclassed the No. 2 seed, controlling the bout and notching Algeria's first female boxing Olympic gold with a clear 5-0 judges' scorecard decision.

Khelif's ascendancy to champion incited rapture both ringside and among her countrymen in the stands, as she jumped into her coach's arms, elation written all over her face.

Her post-win celebration continued with dancing in the ring followed by heartfelt acknowledgments of the crowd's support.

Exiting the ring, even Piers Morgan felt compelled to comment on her triumph online, making the incorrect statement: "A biological male just beat a biological male to win an Olympic gold medal in a women's competition. Congrats to everyone who supported this travesty."

Ultimately, it was Khelif who wrote the defining narrative of the night with her golden performance.

"There are enemies of success of course," she continued. "That gives my success a special taste."

"My family is happy. The whole of Algeria is happy today. Eight years of work. Eight years of no sleep - today I'm very happy to win the gold medal."

The other woman embroiled in the sports gender eligibility controversy, Lin Yu-ting from Chinese Taipei, gears up for her own battle for gold come Saturday evening. Both athletes received clearance from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in Paris for competition, despite their ban by the International Boxing Association (IBA) in 2023 due to alleged failure to meet the gender criteria.

The IOC itself has excluded the IBA from having a hand in Olympics boxing for two consecutive tournaments owing to apprehensions surrounding finance and corruption issues, with IBA president Umar Kremlev vocally criticising IOC president Thomas Bachs leadership.

Accusations from Kremlev, or the IBA, have surfaced suggesting XY chromosomes presence or raised testosterone in tests purportedly from Khelif and Lin, yet inconsistencies plague the provided proof which remains officially unverified to date.
