'I told future mother-in-law to change her upsetting and inappropriate outfit or skip my wedding'

Family weddings can often be difficult to navigate , especially if there are many differing views and opinions flying about. Cooperation is key, but if certain relatives do not want to do so, it can cause rifts in the family dynamic .

One bride-to-be found herself in a sticky situation recently - she wanted to ask her future mother-in-law to change her outfit. If she didn't, she wanted her to skip the wedding altogether.

Sharing her dilemma on Reddit on August 7, which has now gone viral with 7,700 upvotes, the woman, who went by username /u/Ldrizz15, revealed that her future mother-in-law chose a white dress for her upcoming wedding .

This crossed a boundary that the two women had previously spoke about. The poster wrote: "We had multiple conversations about what kind of outfit she would end up with , and specifically spoke about how I wasn't ok with guests wearing white or ivory, as in my eyes this is something that should be reserved for the bride ."

The poster attempted to involve future mother-in-law in the wedding preparations by offering to go shopping with her for an outfit, but the woman refused and went with a friend instead. The woman still kept her in the loop by sending her photos of several potential outfits before things then took a turn for the worst .

"I checked in to see if she had been successful, and she then sent a photograph of the outfit she had bought , asking what I thought of it," the bride wrote. "It was not one of the photos she had already sent, and the dress is white."

The poster said the store her future in-law bought the dress from was "not cheap" and didn't offer refunds or returns. She didn't want to be branded a "bridezilla," so turned to her fiancé, who agreed that the dress was inappropriate .

The groom-to-be spoke to his mother about the dress, but the poster didn't bring it up herself. The bride received huge support on Reddit, with users giving their view that was on the fiancé to raise the issue.

"What your fiancé needs to do is ask to see the dress, and he tells her it's inappropriate to wear white ," one person wrote. "His mom, his issue. He can be a big boy and take care of this for you."

Another commenter agreed: "She chose this dress deliberately. She knows it upsets OP because it's white and she was told 'no white or ivory.' Give her one chance to buy an appropriate dress, to be approved by son and OP.

"Rescind the invite if she refuses, but her son must be the one to tell her. If she rolls up to the ceremony in a white dress , she's removed from the premises."
