Following her victory at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Algerian boxer Imane Khelif has filed a legal complaint against online harassment through her lawyer as of Saturday.

Her lawyer Nabil Boudi expressed in a statement: "The boxer Imane Khelif has decided to begin a new fight, a fight for justice, dignity and honour."

He revealed that Khelif has lodged a complaint with Paris prosecutors concerning "aggravated online harassment".

Boudi further detailed the goals behind filing this complaint: "The investigation will determine who was behind this misogynist, racist and sexist campaign, but will also have to concern itself with those who fed the online lynching."

Khelif achieved a stellar win via unanimous decision over China's Yang Liu to take home gold in the womens welterweight division final at the games on Friday. Preceding the final, at just 25 years old, she had been heavily scrutinised for failing a gender test at the 2023 Womens World Championships.

Initially stirring controversy with her contentious victory against Angela Carini at the Paris Games, Khelif witnessed Carini withdraw from their match after only 46 seconds, protesting "this is unjust" while audibly upset.

Carinia subsequently declined to shake hands with the Algerian boxer post-match, an action to which she later admitted she regretted, and remarked to the press about the exceptional power behind Khelif's punches.
