Phoenix performed at the Olympics Closing Ceremony tonight , prompting questions about who exactly who the band are .

The French band comes from Versailles, and consists of vocalist Thomas Mars, guitarists Laurent Brancowitz and Christian Mazzalai (who are brothers), and bassist/keyboardist Deck D'arcy.

The band started playing together in 1995, recording their demos in Mars' parents' garage in Versailles, as reported by GQ.

Singer Thomas Mars is married to Hollywood royalty Sofia Coppola, director and daughter of Francis Ford Coppola. She has worked on The Godfather Part III and Lost in Translation.

Mars frequently collaborates with his wife, Sofia Coppola. The pair first met when Mars worked with the band Air. Their song "Playground Love" is featured in Coppola's film The Virgin Suicides, which stars Kristen Dunst.
