Disappointment reigned among Olympic spectators over the Los Angeles segment in tonight's closing ceremony .

Tom Cruise made a show-stopping exit from the Stade de France, parachuting from the stadium before hopping on a motorbike to hand over the Olympic flag, en route to Los Angeles . Yet, viewers were let down by Tom appearing in a pre-recorded video transporting the flag to the Hollywood sign .

Subsequently, Californian vibes hit the stage as Red Hot Chili Peppers, Billie Eilish, and Snoop Dogg performed from a beach setting , but it soured some fans who lamented the lack of live acts for the Olympians and attendees in the stadium .

A fan expressed their feelings on social media: "Would be a bit disappointing to be in the Paris stadium and then to have the USA handover so far consist of a pre-recorded Tom Cruise video package and now the live performances of Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Billie Eilish on the stadium screens #ClosingCeremony."

While another questioned: "Nice handover and gig in LA. Are there large screens in the Stade de France? Asking for 90,000 people... #Paris2024."

A third chimed in: "So...is there LA section just being shown on screens in Paris?"

"Kinda sucks that they couldn't have these people performing in Paris so it's all together. Imagine being all excited in the stadium and having to watch on the screens. #ClosingCeremony," a fourth commented, while a fifth shared: "Long pauses, awkward silences. Shame these performers didn't come to the SDF to perform instead of the athletes craning their necks on the big screens."

Another added: "So the people in Paris just have to watch this in the screens. #ClosingCeremony."

The Olympic Closing Ceremony is set to air tonight featuring the parade of athletes, a thank you to volunteers, medal ceremonies, the extinguishing of the Olympic flame, and the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, announcing the Games' conclusion. The event will culminate with Anne Hidalgo and Karen Bass, the mayors of Paris and Los Angeles respectively, passing the Olympic flag as a symbol of the next Games' location.

French bands Air and Phoenix, known for their catchy electro-pop tunes, are slated to perform, alongside Breton dancer Arthur Cadre, also known as Lil Crabe. Adding to the star-studded lineup, the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Billie Eilish, and Tom Cruise are all set to make appearances.

The Olympic Closing Ceremony concluded with a sci-fi twist, featuring extraterrestrials reviving the spirit of the Games. Thomas Jolly, acclaimed for the Opening Ceremony, helmed the creative aspects once more.

The spectacle followed "travellers from another space-time" who reassemble the iconic Olympic rings.

The organisers described the event saying: "Like an indelible memory, this Olympic closing ceremony will be marked by audacity, fraternity and emotion. In the heart of the Stade de France, athletes from all over the world will represent their countries one last time in an incredible moment of celebration and sharing. With their eyes riveted to the flame, the emotion will be immense as we close the great Olympic book of Paris 2024," with tickets initially on offer from 250 Euros.
