Exciting new Saoirse Ronan epic among New York Film Festival highlights

The 62nd New York Film Festival has just revealed its main line-up, spotlighting a range of films such as Sean Baker's Palme d'Or recipient "Anora," Pedro Almodovar's "The Room Next Door," and Mati Diop's "Dahomey."

With 33 features in total, the festivals core programme by Film at Lincoln Center displays a global flair this year, showcasing works from 24 nations and featuring 19 directors with their first showing in the event's most distinguished section.

The festival will kick off on September 27 with RaMell Ross’s Nickel Boys, an adaptation of Colson Whitehead’s Pulitzer Prize-winning 2019 novel.

Almodovar is set to make his 15th appearance at the festival with "The Room Next Door," casting Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton, slated to be the centrepiece of the event .

To conclude the festival, Steve McQueen's World War II epic "Blitz," about the London bombings, starring Saoirse Ronan , will grace the final evening.

"The festival's ambition is to reflect the state of cinema in a given year , which often means also reflecting the state of the world," declared Dennis Lim, the festival's artistic director.

"The most notable thing about the films in the main slate - and in the other sections that we will announce in the coming weeks - is the degree to which they emphasize cinema's relationship to reality. They are reminders that, in the hands of its most vital practitioners, film has the capacity to reckon with, intervene in, and reimagine the world ."

It comes after Saoirse Ronan tied the knot with her movie co-star Jack Lowden . The four-time Academy Award nominee , 30, and her Mary Queen of Scots co-star, 34, secretly said their vows in a Scottish ceremony last month.

The pair first crossed paths in December 2018 and made it official over the weekend of July 20 after six years together. It is believed the ceremony was small and intimate , attended only by the couple's nearest and dearest.
