The most popular Irish names have evolved over time, from traditional to contemporary and back to traditional. In a Reddit forum, people discussed the most common Irish names for Gen-Z .

A user with the handle @chaechica created the forum to discuss some of the most common Irish names she has seen among her generation , also known as Gen Z. Gen Z refers to people born between the years 1997 and 2012.

The user was born in 2006, and called on other users to chime in about what other names they have found really common with people their age.

She wrote: “I'm currently 18 (born in 2006) and I've seen these names among people MY age and a small bit older too. I didn't base it off of the current 2020's naming trend (which would be a little bit different, albeit mostly similar to the rest of the names here)”

The list follows no particular order and reads as follows:

Aoife (pronounced 'Eefa'), Caoimhe (pronounced 'Kweeva'), Lauren, Laura, Erin, Grace, Ella, Sophie, Sophia, Sofia, Alanna, Mia, Catherine, Freya, Victoria, Sarah, Hannah, Ava, Eabha (pronounced 'Ava'), Róisín (pronounced 'Ro-sheen'), Rebecca, Nicole, Abbie, Abigail, Anna, Lily, Rachel, Shauna, Isabel, Kate, Katie, Áine (pronounced 'Onya'), Molly, Emma, Emily, Lucy, Zoey, Zoe, Orla, Eva, Eve, Georgia, Charlotte, Aislinn, Aisling, Niamh (pronounced 'Neev'), Amy, Amelia, Andrea, Tara, Ciara (pronounced 'Keera'), Leah (pronounced 'Lia'), Zara, Karen, Amelia, Sadbh (pronounced 'Sive'), Molly, Caitlin, Megan, Amber

Users commented their favorites and least favorites, adding some that they felt were common in their classrooms growing up.

@sunny_74 said: “Jesus you've listed out my entire secondary school class there. I'm born in 2001 :) The only ones listed that aren't too common in my generation would be Zara and Amelia. I think they came into fashion a couple years later.”

One user added: “Fionnuala too, it is one of the mythical type ones..I like how soft it sounds, no sharpness in it.”

@Adorable-Classic-624, wrote: “As an American, I think Aoife and Ciara are really pretty. Niamh and Sadbh scare me. Also you gave me a jump scare reminding me that people born in 2006 are turning 18 this year because I’m born in 2007.”
