The Cliffs of Moher in Ireland are renowned globally , drawing millions of visitors each year to marvel at their grandeur.

Yet, the west coast of Ireland boasts numerous other breathtaking coastal landscapes , particularly in County Mayo.

One such location is Benwee Head. Situated in a secluded area in northwest County Mayo, Benwee Head features cliffs that tower 250 meters above the wild Atlantic Ocean .

Visitors can also enjoy stunning views of the untouched landscape behind them and remarkable sea stacks shaped by the force of the Atlantic Ocean. The highest point of Benwee Head, located in the Dun Chaochain range, stands at 304 meters, reports the Irish Star .

Galway City, the nearest city to these magnificent cliffs, is still a two-and-a-half-hour drive away. The best way to experience the Benwee Cliffs is as part of a comprehensive Wild Atlantic Way road trip, travelling from Mayo northwards to Sligo and Donegal.

From the popular tourist town of Westport in County Mayo, it takes approximately an hour and 20 minutes to reach Benwee Head.

To truly appreciate Benwee Head, prepare for a walk. A trail at Benwee Head offers spectacular views of the dramatic Irish coastline, particularly on the northern side where there's a steep drop to the mighty Atlantic Ocean.

The Benwee Head Coastal Walk is well-signposted with purple arrows, making it easy to navigate. It's a trek for those up for a full day's adventure, as the entire route takes about five hours to complete.

Naturally, caution is recommended. Keep an eye on weather forecasts and avoid attempting the walk in strong winds or stormy conditions.

Also, make sure to wear suitable footwear and weather-resistant hiking gear. The walk starts and finishes in the village of Carrowteig, where there's ample parking available.
