PetLabCo, a pet expert known for their pet care and supplement tips, has dished out some simple tricks on TikTok to win your dog's trust. As you can't talk to them and argue your point, body language is key in building a bond with your furry friend.

The TikTok video suggested: "One: do not have direct eye contact," as dogs can find this intimidating. "Two: get down on their level to make them more comfortable with your presence. Three: let the dog come to YOU for a treat. Give the dog a chance to become more comfortable and approach you on their own."

Dog owners are barking up the right tree with these tips, judging by the positive reactions from viewers. One said: "This is really helpful because today we are taking care of a scared dog," while another shared: "another thing, if you want to look at their face, try to close your eyes a bit to show less whites. it makes them feel more comfortable," reports RSVP Live .

Backing up PetLabCo's pointers, Vet Dr Karyn Kanowski highlighted that patience is essential when earning the trust of a skittish pooch. She remarked: "For the most part, dogs are drawn to humans and want to interact with us, so presenting a non-threatening, appealing, and safe space for them will have most dogs literally eating out of your hand."

According to the Mirror, "Dogs that are particularly wary or fearful of humans often have a reason to be that way, and patience and caution are going to be key. Dogs that have been neglected or abused are going to view humans with suspicion or fear, and it may take many days, even weeks, to gain their trust."

"Allowing them to control the interaction by being passive, non-threatening, and even ignoring the dog will allow their curiosity to outweigh their fear. In most cases, once a dog realises that they are safe in our presence, their progress from uncertainty to affection can be quite rapid."

"It is important to be aware that a nervous dog can be a dangerous one; far more dogs bite out of fear than aggression, so we should always proceed with caution when approaching a frightened canine. By giving them plenty of time and space to make the first move - as well as plenty of treats - you are far more likely to win them over."
