The fascinating story of how a chance meeting on a West Cork road in the summer of 1994 led to the formation of one of the most influential bands of the past few decades is quickly gaining global attention - after the young Irish man at the centre of it has been found.

In a strange twist of fate, this marks the second significant Co Cork connection to the Nirvana story. Back in August 1991, a then relatively unknown Nirvana performed at the iconic Sir Henry's venue in Cork city.

Kurt Cobain later spoke about having one of the most spiritual experiences of his life in Leeside, where his ancestors hailed from.

The latest chapter in this saga emerged when a video from an old interview with Dave Grohl, the former drummer of legendary US band Nirvana, resurfaced, reports Cork Beo.

In the clip, he discusses the aftermath of the tragic death of his friend and bandmate Kurt Cobain in April 1994. Grohl speaks about the profound grief he experienced at the time and how he sought refuge from the media frenzy that had erupted following the suicide of his friend by traveling to Ireland.

He recounted being in a car, journeying around the Ring of Kerry and through West Cork, when he noticed a young hitch-hiker on a remote country road. Grohl recalled thinking they should slow down to offer the young man a lift, only to be stunned to discover that the hitch-hiker was wearing a T-shirt emblazoned with the face of Kurt Cobain.

"It was Kurt's face looking back at me, in the middle of nowhere, and I realized, I can't outrun this, I need to get back home and get back to work. And so I did."

A video clip that recently emerged on Twitter has caught the eye of a young Irish lad who recognized himself as the hitch-hiker from that day, during his holiday around Allihies on the Beara in West Cork (we'll forgive Dave Grohl for thinking it was Kerry).

The now older Nirvana fan, named Lorcan, shared this story with his cousin Eoin, and they've created a short video that was posted on X late on Thursday night. It has already been shared thousands of times and is expected to go viral today as Nirvana and Foo Fighters fans worldwide share this heartwarming tale of a chance encounter that altered music history.

Lorcan and his cousin have crafted an excellent video recounting the story, which has touched and excited music enthusiasts globally since its recent appearance on X.

They've narrated the story brilliantly, providing the final piece to a narrative that clearly held great significance for Dave Grohl at the time and continues to do so today, as he still performs with the Foo Fighters, even following the tragic loss of beloved drummer Taylor Hawkins in 2022.

Kurt Cobain once shared his emotions during a walk in Cork City back in the summer of 1991, saying: "The entire day I walked around in a daze, I'd never felt more spiritual in my life, I was almost in tears, it was the weirdest thing."

Now, a fresh connection to the southwest has Nirvana enthusiasts around the globe buzzing, all thanks to the fascinating endeavors of Lorcan and Eoin.
