A bicyclist killed in an "execution-style" shooting ambush in Philadelphia has been named. Kaishef Johnson was shot at least 40 times by three gunmen while riding his bicycle in South Philadelphia at 7pm on Wednesday night.

The 25-year-old was gunned down in an "execution-style" slaying, according to police . The horror event unfolded at 15th Street and Snyder Avenue. Officers rushed to the scene where they found Johnson lying on the pavement.

The young man was still straddling his mountain bike, reports the Philadelphia Inquirer. Johnson had been struck several times in the body and head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Three masked men, wearing gloves and dressed all in black, jumped out of a burgundy Nissan parked at the intersection of 15th Street and Snyder Avenue and fired dozens of shots at Johnson, according to investigators.

The gunmen then got back into the Nissan and fled eastbound on Snyder Avenue toward Broad Street. Officers found the vehicle at 2000 South Front Street at 11pm on Wednesday.

Cops believe the shooting was targeted as CCTV footage shows the gunmen standing over Johnson and continuing to fire at him even after he fell to the ground. The motivation for the shooting remains unclear, though.

Anyone with information about the shootings is asked to call homicide detectives at 215-686-3334. Tips can be submitted anonymously by calling or texting the Philadelphia Police Department tip line at 215-686-TIPS (8477).
