Meghan Markle's speech at a major event on Sunday was overshadowed by a loud heckler. The disruption interrupted the Duchess of Sussex after a poignant moment while attending the Afro Women and Power conference during their "quasi-royal" tour of Colombia.

The conference in Cali aimed to put a spotlight on and empower Afro-Colombian women and featured a panel of leading voices and a poignant speech by Meghan, where she revealed a surprising fluency in Spanish and spoke about her family. She was prominently featured alongside Colombia's Vice President Francia Marquez.

Following Meghan's address, where she affectionately mentioned her daughter Princess Lilibet Diana and her mother Doria Ragland, Vice President Marquez prepared to speak. Her moment was cut short, however, by a heckler from the crowd who raised a question about trans rights, reports the Express .

In response, Ms. Marquez said: "I'm talking about women in general. We've got a programme for trans women as well." The disruptor then took her seat and was allowed to remain for the duration of the event.

Harry and Meghan started their Colombian tour four days prior, taking the opportunity to shine a light on issues they hold dear. Invited by Colombia's vice president following her encounter with the couple's Netflix documentary, Harry and Meghan, and resonating with Meghan's backstory, their visit to the Latin America country was highly anticipated.

During Meghan's speech, she paid tribute to Harry for empowering her and allowing her to know her voice was heard. She also told how their three-year-old daughter has 'already found her voice' as she also paid tribute to her own mother, Doria.

Speaking about Harry, 39, who later joined her on stage where they lovingly held hands, Meghan, 43, said: "Yes, we work incredibly well together as a team, but as my husband is great testament to, the role of men in this of empowering women, of allowing them to know that their voices are heard, starting at a young age all the way through adulthood, is key.

"For us and the work that we do with our Archewell Foundation, certainly the work that we do as parents, as I do as a mother, is ensuring that young girls feel as though their voices are being heard.
