Hozier's story of meeting Cillian Murphy while ‘hungover’ and ‘head bleeding’ on an airplane is hysterical

Just like any fan, Hozier literally fell head over heels when he first met Cillian Murphy .

At one of his concerts, the Irish singer recently shared the story of their first meeting. Andrew Hozier-Byrne, known professionally as Hozier , was boarding an airplane while hungover, when he took a tumble and hit his head.

The fall likely left the Take Me To Church singer concussed, as he realized he’d suffered a head wound.

He said on stage: “I was looking at my fingers going, ‘Jesus Christ, I’m bleeding a little bit.’ And I don’t know the extent of the head wound, I don’t know how bad it is.”

As he’s getting to his seat on the plane, pale and worried about his injury, he notices Cillian Murphy to his left.

Though Hozier and the Oscar winner had never met before, they had a brief connection that year. Murphy was putting together a collection of essays from various writers for UNICEF.

Included in the collection was the Irish president, other political figures and Hozier.

“So I only had like one email exchange maybe, that had kind of gone through other people,” he said.

On the plane, Hozier is considering telling a flight attendant he needs to see a doctor, when Murphy leans down to introduce himself to the singer.

“I turn to my left and Cillian Murphy’s is hunkered by my seat and he’s like, ‘Hey man, how’s it going? I just want to say thank you so much for contributing to that thing…

He continued: “I was like, ‘Oh, thanks.’ But I’m trying to play it cool right now.”

Hozier then said he’s never met Murphy again, and he has never told him that story. The hilarious encounter lives in infamy with his friend group, however.
