Since the conclusion of World War II, the deadliest conflict in human history, hundreds of films have been made worldwide. The top 10 WW2 movies, as voted by fans on IMDb, sees Steven Spielberg's Oscar-winning epic Schindler's List taking the top spot.

Spielberg's other WWII blockbuster, Saving Private Ryan, came in second, but his Holocaust film holds the highest score on the site .

The black and white masterpiece, which runs for over three hours, tells the true story of Oskar Schindler (played by Liam Neeson ), a German industrialist who saved 1100 Polish Jews by employing them in his factories.

The harrowing depiction of Nazi atrocities took such an emotional toll on Spielberg during filming that Robin Williams would call him to lighten the mood with jokes.

The WWII epic won seven Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director for Spielberg.

Schindler's List has a 98 per cent critic score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Wendy Ice of the UK Times wrote of the film: "Spielberg employs all the emotive Hollywood tools at his disposal and the result is a remarkable film with wide appeal and real importance. Neeson is phenomenal, but matched by towering performances from Ben Kingsley and Ralph Fiennes."

Jay Carr of the Boston Globe wrote: "It's a stunning achievement, a film that re-creates the Holocaust not as something abstract, but as felt knowledge."
