Time and time again, the quaint village of Inistioge in Co Kilkenny is hailed as one of Ireland's most picturesque spots. The idyllic locale has even been likened to a "movie set".

Inistioge, nestled in Co Kilkenny, is a charming historic village brimming with character . It retains an old-world Irish charm, with remnants of ancient castles and churches scattered throughout.

During the 18th and 19th centuries, Inistioge thrived as part of the Woodstock Estate, owned by the Tighe families. Both Inistioge and Woodstock are steeped in heritage and blessed with natural beauty , such as the Woodstock Arboretum, home to a variety of trees from Asia and South America.

To showcase their village's rich history, a heritage trail was established, guiding tourists to sites with tales dating back to prehistoric times. Legend has it that Inistioge was the site where the Osraige - an ancient Irish tribe- defeated Olaf Cuaran, King of Dublin in 964,.

Due to its abundant archaeological heritage, Inistioge is recognised as a National Monument and is protected under the National Monuments Act.

Despite its small size, Inistioge boasts a diverse range of buildings, spanning from medieval times to the Georgian and Victorian era. This adds to the village's overall allure and creates a unique aesthetic that seems to attract filmmakers.

Several films, including Circle of Friends, The Secret Scripture and Widows' Peak, have used this scenic spot as their backdrop.

Sadly, the small village of Inistioge often goes unnoticed by tourists who may not realise they are bypassing a location of immense historical importance and natural splendour.
