Prince Philip's brutal nickname for Meghan Markle that he 'never said to her face'

The late Prince Philip had a cutting nickname for the Duchess of Sussex , which revealed his stark opinion of her, according to a Royal commentator. Prince Philip, who passed away in 2021, appeared "wary" of the ex-actress from Suits and drew parallels between her and Wallis Simpson, Prince Edward's spouse.

Both American divorcees when they entered the Royal family, their similarities have been noted before, but Philip reportedly made his view express with a moniker for Meghan , although he never shared it with her directly. Royal author and expert Ingrid Seward mentioned that he noticed "similarities" between Meghan and Simpson, the deceased Duchess of Windsor, and coined a nickname that connected them.

In a discussion on GB News, Seward disclosed: "I think Prince Philip was very canny about people and he didn't always see the bad in them, he tried to see the good in them. I think he just couldn't escape from the fact [of the] similarities between Meghan and Harry and Edward and Mrs Simpson."

She elaborated: "There are so many similarities which is why he used to call her The Duchess of Windsor, I mean not to her face. We used to call her dow - DoW [the abbreviation for Duchess of Windsor," reports the Mirror .

In her book, 'My Mother and I', Seward penned that the late Prince was "wary" of the former 'Suits' star as she detailed: "One of the few wary of succumbing to (Meghan's) charm offensive... was Prince Philip. From the moment he detected her apparent similarity to Wallis, he referred to her as DoW."

She further noted that Prince Philip had tagged Meghan as 'disruptive' to the Royal family, while his spouse, the late Queen Elizabeth II, remained hopeful and had "high hopes" for Meghan.

Since stepping back from the Royal family in 2020, Meghan and Harry have made their home in California with their two children. While Harry is set to return to the UK next month to mark a decade of the Invictus Games, it is believed Meghan will remain stateside due to safety worries and a desire to avoid 'drama' on a UK visit.

Meghan's visits to the UK have been infrequent since the couple renounced their Royal roles in 2020, attending only major events such as Queen Elizabeth II's funeral in 2022. Notably, she was absent from King Charles III's coronation last year, an event Harry attended solo.
