Tiny two-seater plane flies over 3,000 miles from Canada to Ireland non-stop

A small, two-seater plane landed in Co Sligo after flying non-stop from Canada - a distance of over 3,000 miles.

The aircraft landed on Saturday evening, and took about eight hours to fly from Goose Bay in Canada, to the coast of Co Sligo . The plane’s final destination was northern Italy, which it set off for on Sunday morning after refueling.

The pilot of the remarkable flight was Italian and he was accompanied by an American co-pilot.

Sligo Airport Manager Noel Jennings told The Sligo Champion that it was an unusual but welcome sight for Sligo Airport to welcome the transatlantic flight.

“It is very unusual, and the plane came direct from Goose Bay in Canada which is quite a feat in itself…And he flew across the Atlantic at 5,000 feet which is quite a feat too as it is fairly low for such a long journey.”

“The plane is well capable of making a trip like this, but it is a long time to be stuck in the air without toilet facilities. You would want to be well prepared for it.

“It is great to see a transatlantic flight coming into Sligo and it is good for the profile of the airport.”

The air controller told the Sligo Champion that the first thing the pilots did after disembarking the aircraft was ask to use the bathroom.
