‘My son ate the wedding cake before the bride and groom – I’m not sorry’

A recent situation on Reddit solidified for some why it’s better to have child-free weddings.

A mother took to the platform to share her side of a story in which her four-year-old ruined her best friend’s wedding. She was looking for validation in her decision not to apologize to the friend.

In the now deleted post, the woman said she, her husband and their son attended her friend’s wedding . The Independent reported the friend almost had a child-free wedding because she wanted to be able to “let loose and enjoy” the day without having to worry about kids.

The bride ultimately decided against it, however, as she had several friends and siblings with little ones.

The ceremony went off without a hitch. She sat with her own son and some of the bride’s nieces, who all behaved well.

“I brought quiet activities to keep them entertained and everybody behaved. I even cried because of how lovely it was,” she wrote.

The reception is where things went off the rails. The newlyweds were sharing a first dance and many of the kids were running around together.

She continued: “The kids were running around and playing with each other and it was a fairly secure space and I knew almost everybody there, so I felt comfortable with my son playing with the other kids while my husband and I had fun dancing.”

When the time came to cut the cake, people began to crowd around the table. Then, the Reddit user heard the bride scream at the four-year-old.

“My husband and I push forward to see what’s wrong. I see my son with frosting around his mouth and on his fingers. The cake had a small chunk taken out of it.

I try to apologize but my best friend turns around and yells, ‘This is YOUR FAULT. Your son RUINED my cake. He’s only here because YOU told me it would be worth it to include the kids!’ I yelled back, telling her that it was just an accident and the rest of the cake was still edible.”

The bride told the Reddit user to leave, and if she didn’t, she’d call security. The trio decided to go home.

After the event, the woman said the bride’s sister reached out and apologized for the bride’s reaction. The user was also encouraged to say sorry, in which she refused. She said she was humiliated from being yelled at in front of everyone.

In the comments, many people informed her she should apologize, as her son is very young and should have been supervised better.

Someone wrote: “Your son taking a big bite out of the wedding cake wasn’t an accident. He did it because he wanted some cake and didn’t want to wait.

“He’s four, but you could have told him not to touch the cake. This would have been avoided if you’d been supervising him properly."
