A drama series chronicling a chapter of Irish history has proven a huge hit with Netflix audiences.

The mini-series Rebellion was initially released in 2016, to celebrate the centenary of the 1916 Easter Rising. The defining moment in Irish history is told through the eyes of three young women and their families. The three woman come from Belfast , Dublin and London, providing three important cultural outlooks on the historic event.

The series was added to Netflix where it grew in popularity, eight years after its initial release. Many US viewers got their first taste of Irish history in a mainstream television series, while also enjoying themes like friendship, romance, and loyalty.

The historical drama got glowing reviews on critic sites like Rotten Tomatoes where audience members described it as, “A fantastic show depicting the plight of the oppressed Irish.”
