Cillian Murphy's best performance is 'phenomenal - ' and it’s not Oppenheimer

Though Cillian Murphy didn’t win his first Oscar until this year, fans of the actor have been singing his praises for years.

The Co Cork native won Best Actor for his performance as the titular character in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. Many agree he excelled in the role, but some claim it wasn’t his best.

It may not even have been his best in a Christopher Nolan film .

Some fans say Murphy’s best film role was as Robert Fischer in Inception. The character is the heir to a business empire, and the plot involves Dom Cobb, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, trying to convince Fishcer to take down his father’s company.

The method to do this, however, is by making Fishcer think he came up with the idea. They do this by using inception, which is the process of planting a seed deep into a character’s subconscious as they dream.

In the finale scene, Fischer sits by his father while he’s on his deathbed. While looking and feeling realistic, the entire scenario was a part of one of the dream sequences.

In real life, his father was cold to him up until his death. But in the dream, his father revealed a childhood memento of Fischer’s he’d kept all his life. Murphy’s portrayal of Fischer is heartbreaking as he finally receives the love he always wished from his father, even if it isn’t real.

The clip was posted to YouTube, and fans in the comments were stunned by Murphy’s expressive performance.

One person wrote: “My dude's been killing it with the supporting roles in Christopher Nolan movies since 2005. So glad he finally gets to lead such an impressive cast in the upcoming Oppenheimer film.”

Another said: “Cillian Murphy's eyes are so expressive that he doesn't need words to do a scene.”

That person edited their comment a year later, praising Murphy’s success in Oppenheimer. They added: “Wrote the comment a year ago, I'm so glad that finally we are going to witness the class and magic of Cillian's acting and his eyes in a lead role in a Nolan film, Oppenheimer. 20 years of collaboration with Nolan, he's finally got what he always deserved.”

The same user made another edit after the Oscars , saying: “Had to come back here, my man won the Academy Award for Oppenheimer, I've always known he would win it one day.”
