A TV show has shone a spotlight on the most stunning golf courses in Ireland . Golfing the World, a popular golf and travel TV series, highlighted the most impressive courses to tee off from to golfers across the US last weekend.

Millions of viewers tuned into a special episode called Golfing the World: Derry City on NBC Sports Boston , where presenter Hannah Leiner enjoyed a guided tour of Co Derry , which translated beautifully on screen.

Hannah used the walled city as a base to explore other links including North West Golf Club , Portsalon, and Ballylifflin in Co Donegal . Portsalon Golf Club was recently ranked in the top 25 courses in Ireland by Golf Digest.

“We were delighted to welcome the crew to Northern Ireland and to support this episode focusing on Derry as an ideal base to explore the Causeway Coast and Donegal ," Alison Metcalfe, Tourism Ireland’s Head of North America, said.

"It’s a fantastic opportunity to showcase our world-class golf and our tourism offering to millions of potential golf holidaymakers in the US ... we hope to inspire golfers from the US and other golf markets to consider a holiday here.”

In between practicing her hole in one, Hannah also experienced the sights and sounds of the City of Derry Jazz Festival. In general, Ireland is home to some of the most picturesque golf courses in the world .

The country attracts over 250,000 players from abroad every year , with the impressive but unforgiving fairways often considered amongst the most challenging around. PGA stars have long sang their praises.

Irish golfers, of course, are more prone to picking Irish courses as their favorites. Rory McIlroy grew up near one of Europe's best courses, Royal County Down, and watched his father play Royal Portrush in Co Antrim as a child.
