Matthew Perry's former partner Kayti Edwards has spoken out about her tough decision to leave the actor , revealing she "couldn't watch him die" and sharing the haunting three-word message she frequently sent him.

Following several arrests linked to his passing, his ex-girlfriend and one-time assistant Kayti, aged 47, has opened up about their poignant final chapter together.

In a candid chat with The Mirror US , Kayti recounted how she was a witness to Matthew's daily battles with addiction, observing as it took an increasingly dangerous hold on his life. Despite forming a close connection with Matthew, she reached a point where she could no longer bear to be in his employ or maintain their romantic relationship.

She disclosed: "Matthew paid me very well as his assistant but there came a point for me that he got so bad that I had no choice but to walk away from that salary. But I knew that I could not watch him die. I would never, ever be able to live with myself."

Kayti shared her concerns saying: "There were so many sleepless nights that I would go home and I would wake up at four in the morning texting him, 'Are you alive? Are you alive? Just answer. Send me an emoji. Send me something that you are there.' I couldn't sleep at night knowing what he was doing. And I think part of me stayed as long as I did, because if I didn't stay, he would have been alone, and he would have just kept going."

She recounted the tough love approach she took in pushing him towards rehabilitation: "I said, 'I'm not doing this anymore, Matthew, I am sorry you were going to hate me, but we are getting you in a rehab.'".

Tragically, the Friends star was found lifeless in his hot tub on October 28, aged 54. The official examination concluded Perry's passing as accidental, revealing he succumbed to the "acute effects of ketamine," a substance that had ensnared Perry for some time.

Her comments come in the aftermath of charges being leveled against Perry's live-in aide, two medics, and one individual nicknamed "the ketamine queen" consequent to an inquiry into the celebrity's demise. However, Kayti, who is the step-granddaughter of renowned British actress Julie Andrews, indicated that his associations with medical professionals dated back several years, even though his drug preferences evolved.

His addiction to ketamine was a new development, but it all started with unscrupulous doctors over-prescribing him painkillers like Vicodin, she claims. "When the charges dropped, I knew they would be doctors.....because that was what he always did. I was not surprised. His addictive brain would think, 'Well, it was prescribed from a doctor so I can take it.' In his head, it wasn't like he was out on the street, scoring drugs."

She recalls being shocked by the huge quantity of drugs he was taking when she worked for him. "I used to say to him 'how is it possible for someone to even get 50 to 60 Vicodin a day' and he told me 'I have an in with the doctors.' That was back in 2011 and continued up until his death," she says.

Investigators have revealed how one doctor, Salvador Plasencia, conspired with another medic, Mark Chavez, to supply the actor with large amounts of ketamine, with one message reading: "I wonder how much this moron will pay" and "let's find out".
