The events of the movie are loosely based on the real life of screenwriter Ryan Binaco’s late mother. It was the first feature film for director Michael Morris, of Better Call Saul fame.

Those without a Netflix subscription can rent the movie for $3.79 from Amazon Prime, $3.99 from Youtube TV, or $3.99 from Apple TV.

The movie had a budget of less than $1 million, and it only made a little over $400,000 at the box office. It was overwhelmingly beloved by critics, however.

Richard Brody from the New Yorker said: “Riseborough makes a virtuoso display of the script’s gamut of screen clichés, ranging from loud aggression and wheedling sweetness to humbled desperation and proud defiance…”

Paul Byrnes from the Sydney Morning Herald wrote: “Riseborough’s performance is spectacular -- a high-wire act, from despair to repair and everywhere in between.”

David Stratton, of the Australian, reviewed the movie, saying: “Riseborough’s performance is very fine indeed, as she captures all the flaws and attributes of a woman who’s had a very tough life, a woman who has been her own worst enemy, but who somehow survives and endures.”
