When you're hankering for a McDonald's , nothing else quite hits the spot. It's no wonder then that it's a favorite weekend treat for many, especially after a heavy night.

The routine is familiar - head to the drive-thru, join the queue of cars, place your order, and then drive away with your meal. But have you ever wondered how the staff know which order is yours ?

A TikTok user has claimed to reveal the 'secret' method behind this process , leaving some fans utterly astounded. McDonald's employees have also chimed in on the matter.

The revelation was made in a video by Irish influencer Aimee Wills, which has garnered an impressive 3.8 million views at the time of writing, reports the Liverpool Echo .

Visibly shocked, she said: "I have just found out how they know whose order it is in the McDonald's drive-thru."

If you've visited a drive-thru before, you'll know there are usually two lanes in operation, with a spot to stop and give your order to a staff member. After watching a video from an employee, Aimee was stunned by what reportedly happened at this point.

She revealed: "When you order your food, they take a picture of your face. Seriously? Can you imagine what that picture looks like? Somebody needs to confirm if this is true or not."

Aimee noted the rationale after an employee mentioned that the cameras allow staff to view customers live, linking orders to the right car.

McDonald's workers quickly chimed in with confirmations in the comment section.

"As an ex McDonald's employee I can confirm this is true," one commenter confirmed, while another former employee disclosed: "Used to work there, this is true."

However, some corrected the assumption about what's captured in the photo.

"I work at one and it's a picture of the car not the face lol," a current employee corrected, backed up by another who added: "I work at Maccas, it only takes a pic of your car."

Another offered a word of caution based on their experience: "I used to work there, we can also hear the mic on the drive-through when you finish ordering."

Reassuringly, a spokesperson from McDonald's clarified that the drive-thru cameras do take pictures when orders are made, but stressed that these images aren't saved permanently; they are auto-deleted approximately 30 minutes post sale. These snapshots are solely for order accuracy on the cashier's screen.
