Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's 'inappropriate' request that was 'firmly denied' by the Queen

Rumors are rife that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could be looking to say goodbye to their Montecito estate .

The Sussexes made headlines when they nabbed their plush £11 million pad shortly after their bombshell decision to ditch the UK and step back from royal duties. Before setting off for a new chapter in the United States, they resided at Windsor's Frogmore Cottage , a generous wedding gift from the late Queen.

Prior to this, Meghan lived in a $1.9million townhouse in Toronto while filming Suits.

However, the keys were returned last year due to their sparse visits to the UK. Yet, whispers suggest they had originally set their hearts on a different dwelling post-nuptials, only to have their hopes dashed by the Queen who "firmly" steered them to Frogmore.

Word has it that the Sussexes had their sights set on Windsor Castle as their home and enquired if "living quarters could be made available after their marriage". Back then, only the late Queen and Prince Philip enjoyed the privilege of private living spaces within the castle walls, while others inhabited separate accommodations across the estate.

The sovereign reportedly "politely but firmly suggested" that they make Frogmore Cottage their home, according to rights to Royal expert Hugo Vickers.

He told The Times: "There are empty bedrooms and suites in the private apartments which the Sussexes may have had their eye on, or perhaps some former living quarters in the castle grounds converted into other things. But I can see how it might not be entirely appropriate to have a young family living there."

Nevertheless, before Harry and Meghan settled in Frogmore Cottage, it's said that several Windsor dwellings were considered for them, including Adelaide Cottagenow occupied by Prince William, Kate, and their children, who relocated there in 2022.

Moreover, property pundit Jonathan Rolande has sent out an advisory suggesting that if Harry and Meghan are eyeing a change of scenery, now could be a prime time to sell. Speaking with the Mirror, he remarked: "One reason Harry and Meghan might be looking to move is to take advantage of the reported rise in value their mansion has accrued."

He elaborated: "According to some reports, the value of their home has soared by more than £10m since they moved in. That's entirely possible."

Yet, he cautioned: "But, like here, property markets in the US can rapidly change, so they might think this is the time to make their move and cash in."

The Sussexes' lavish pad boasts nine bedrooms, 16 bathrooms, and comes complete with a games room, gym, tennis courts, and even a tea house. Property expert Jonathan highlighted that the property's Royal connection is a major draw.

"As well as obviously being a stunning property the home also comes with the wow factor of once being owned by Harry and Meghan. For many this will be a huge selling point and can, itself, add to the value," he remarked.
