Despite local opposition , golf superstar Tiger Woods and pop sensation Justin Timberlake have secured a liquor license for their new sports bar in Scotland .

The pair are transforming the New Picture House in St. Andrews into a pub and eatery, as the golf icon deals with issues in his own personal life .

The town is renowned for its golfing history and has been chosen as the location for their second bar venture they already run T-Squared Social in New York.

Woods and Timberlake hold shares in the company responsible for the cinema conversion plans, which were approved by Fife council last month. The venue's alcohol license has now been granted, with proposals submitted to the council describing T-Squared Social as a "fun, family-friendly" destination.

The plan detailing how the design and material selection would preserve and enhance the character and appearance of the category-B-listed cinema was accepted. Developers announced that the venue would open in its new guise in the summer of 2025.

However, the plans did face criticism, including from St Andrews Community Council member Neil Dobson, who expressed his disapproval of the proposals. "What's next, Trump buying the West Sands for a hotel? I find this very disrespectful and a bit cheeky, to be honest," Dobson told The Courier.

"This town has been very good to Tiger Woods, and this is not the way to repay residents. St Andrews is unique, and that building is iconic. An American bar is completely out of keeping. It will be full of American golfers with nothing left in the town for children at all."

The transformation of the former cinema will feature cozy seating areas designed for patrons to mingle. Though the original theatre screen will be preserved to showcase movies and sports broadcasts, additional amenities like golf simulators and electronic dart boards are planned.

Despite Dobson's skepticism, not everyone on the community council opposed the changes; many advocated for the town's development. Fife Council approved the project, commenting: "The proposal is considered acceptable in terms of design, detailing and choice of materials; and would protect and enhance the character and appearance of the conservation area."

Overjoyed with the approval, T-Squared Social's managing partner Christopher Anand announced: "We are delighted to be announcing our intention to commence works later this year on this exciting new entertainment concept including the cinema."

He further ensured the longevity of the cinema's presence in the town by adding: "It will ensure that a cinema offering can remain in the town for this and for generations to come. As we progress with the construction works we look forward to continuing to engage with the local community and council on our ongoing activity."
