Walmart's new self-checkout policy slammed by shopper who vows never to shop there again

Mitch Hastings, a disgruntled Walmart customer, has vowed to boycott the retail giant after venting his frustration over their latest checkout policy on social media .

Following a vexing encounter with self-service checkouts where he spent 30 minutes struggling with a machine that kept malfunctioning, Mitch vented on Facebook.

He wrote: "This will be my last Walmart trip. Apparently, weekday mornings are now down to self-checkout only. No cashier working. So I just spent 30 mins checking out $400 of groceries with the machine showing error every other item while an associate stood behind me to scan in every time."

He also lamented the hassle of managing his shopping, revealing that he had to ask a staff member to watch his trolley while he went to get another one for his bags. Adding to his irritation was the exit procedure, as he complained about being asked to show his receipt: "Had to ask her to watch my cart so I could go to the front of the store to get an empty cart to put my bags in. Then on the way out someone sitting at the entrance tried to stop me to see my receipt, 'no thanks' and kept walking."

Mitch's tirade continued as he felt insulted by what he perceived as a demeaning experience, concluding his statement with: "At this point, they are just mocking us as consumers."

Retailers are increasingly moving towards self-service checkouts to speed up the payment process, but not all customers are on board with the change.

Some shoppers find that the new self-checkout systems complicate their shopping experience rather than streamline it. The sentiment has been echoed loudly by several users.

One unhappy shopper stated: "This is why I don't go to Walmart anymore, especially getting groceries," while another added, "I haven't shopped at Walmart since 2019."

Another customer shared their story: "I used to do all my shopping at Walmart with all 4 kids. The self-checkout got to be way too much for me."

Walmart customers have also voiced their frustration with a trial policy at some tills that restricts transactions to 15 items to prevent theft, similar to Target's 10-item limit.

Moreover, there's been criticism over compulsory receipt checks aimed at stopping theft, which some customers doubt is effective. One shopper noted: "All they do is take your receipt and mark it with a sharpie. They don't check your bags to make sure it matches your purchases, so it is absolutely no deterrent or solution to shoplifting."

Another baffled customer questioned: "Why not just make self-checkout maybe 35 items or less? " A different shopper declared, "I spend $500.00 plus per month at Walmart, but not anymore."

Further bewilderment and annoyance were expressed by another individual who was exasperated with the store's changes: "What sense does it make to change the self-checkout lanes to 15 items or less BUT then only have 2-3 registers open? MAKE IT MAKE SENSE."
