A woman was caught trying to shoplift when her husband, who was supposed to be on the lookout for police, fell asleep.

Candis Garner was caught trying to steal merchandise Aug. 21 at a Nordstrom Rack on Belle Isle Boulevard in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was trying to stuff sunglasses, shoes and watches into her purse.

Sergeant Dillon Quirk with the Oklahoma City Police Department told KFOR she was trying to take over $1,000 worth of merchandise .

As she was being walked to a patrol car by an officer, Garner stopped by where her husband was waiting. She then got upset and yelled at her husband, saying “Thanks for telling me the cops were here.”

Her husband, Brandon Burkholtz, was tasked with keeping an eye out for police and driving the getaway car, police said.

Burkholtz was also placed into custody as well, telling the officers he fell asleep and was unable to warn Garner that police had arrived.

Quirk said: “It’s not common for it to happen. But it again, in this case, it worked out for police.”

Burkholtz and Garner are facing felony larceny charges.
