A family in Las Vegas is grieving after their six cats perished when their Tesla burst into flames , leading to a devastating house fire .

Aimee Yem and her family had to evacuate their Southwest Las Vegas home on Sunday when their Tesla car caught fire in the garage .

Speaking to News 3 Las Vegas, an NBC affiliate, Yem recounted the harrowing experience: "I woke up and all of a sudden I'm running for my life, you know, and then I was ... I remember that time I was praying, praying for the fire truck to come because we still have so many pets inside."

Although Yem and co-homeowner Andrew Baek managed to get out safely, they were unable to rescue their cherished cats. "They're all siblings, all from the same mom," lamented Yem.

In the chaos of the emergency, Yem attempted to save some of the cats, but they were too scared by the fire alarm and hid under the bed. Now, Yem and Baek are seeking answers about what caused the fire.

"We didn't have anything in the garage," Yem explained. "So, it was for us right now, it's a puzzle. But we know that seeing from the fire, it was Tesla that would just keep firing."

The couple returned to their scorched home to assess the damage and were heartbroken to find very little salvageable.

Baek, an interior designer, was particularly devastated to see his furniture and decor destroyed. "It's heartbreaking. You know, working so hard for all that and one day is perfectly normal and the next is up in flames, literally. You know, you see it in movies and all that but never thought that I could just really happen to us," he expressed.

In other news, a Houston ship fire resulted in two fatalities and another person injured after a container vessel went up in flames. Meanwhile, a Bronx fire tore through the city, destroying seven stores as firefighters battled the blaze.

The couple are uncertain about returning to their ruined home. "It's the what-ifs that kill, you know," Baek admitted.

"For now, I'm just grateful we're able to do what we can. I'm grateful that my girls are out at least, you know. That's the most I can ask for."

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by firefighters.
