In the southeast of Ireland, a lighthouse offers breathtaking views of the country's stunning coastline . Co Wexford , known for its natural beauty, has a plethora of activities to offer.

As the warmest county in Ireland, it draws visitors from across the nation every summer. With charming seaside towns, beautiful beaches, and picturesque islands , Co Wexford promises a busy itinerary for those who visit.

Perhaps the most spectacular sight in Co Wexford is the Hook Lighthouse. Located on the scenic Hook Head, it's a must-visit spot when exploring this delightful county.

Not only does it cater to those who appreciate stunning scenery (especially on a sunny day), but it also appeals to history enthusiasts. This is because it holds the title of being the second-oldest operational lighthouse in the world, following the Tower of Hercules in Spain.

Constructed 800 years ago by Knight William Marshal, it houses some intriguing medieval history. For those interested in the lighthouse's story and what life was like for those living in the area centuries ago, guided tours are available.

An adult ticket is priced at €12, while a concession ticket is available for €10. Children under 5 years old can enter for free, while entry for children up to 17 years old costs €6.

Visitors to Hook Lighthouse in Ireland are promised a fascinating climb up 115 spiral steps to a chamber with thick walls, before reaching the panoramic balcony four stories high.

Lucky guests might spot marine wildlife such as dolphins, seals, and whales from above, followed by a delightful visit to the onsite cafe for some refreshments.

According to Tripadvisor reviews of Hook Lighthouse, one visitor commented: "Excellent tour guide Noel expertly led us up the lighthouse on a rainy, atmospheric day."

"We all loved it. Had two kids age 5 and 7 with us. Lovely scone afterwards and bought some art."

Another expressed their enjoyment, noting: "Stunning views but what made this tour exceptional was our tour guide Paul who took us through the lighthouse while telling us about its 800 years of history. His deep knowledge, ability to create a narrative and his humor made it one of the best tours I have had."

A third reviewer praised the overall experience: "The tour was so well delivered and so interesting. Our tour guide was brilliant and passionate about his work. Actually, all the staff at the Lighthouse are very nice pleasant people and plenty of time for a chat."
