Queen Elizabeth II was the proud owner of many stunning and costly jewels, but one of the most sentimental pieces was her engagement ring, a gift from her husband Prince Phillip .

The late Queen's engagement ring from Prince Philip has a unique tale attached to it. The diamonds used in the ring were sourced from a tiara that belonged to his mother Princess Alice of Battenberg.

Prince Philip, who passed away recently, designed the square-cut diamond engagement ring with the help of jewelers Philip Antrobus Ltd. An expert estimates the ring could be valued at over $270,000.

Engagement ring experts at UK retailer Steven Stone have revisited the captivating story of Queen Elizabeth II's engagement ring and compared it to those of Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle .

Prince William took inspiration from his grandfather, Prince Phillip, when he gave Kate Princess Diana's iconic sapphire and diamond engagement ring, reports the Express .

Maxwell Stone, creative director at Steven Stone, remarked: "Prince Philip personally designed Queen Elizabeth II's platinum engagement ring, which boasts a 3-carat round cut solitaire diamond, flanked by clusters of smaller stones."

"Crafted with diamonds from his mother's tiara, the ring embodies both sentimentality and practicality, reflecting his thoughtful approach during a time when his family's wealth was modest."

"After examining the sentimental sparkler, I'd estimate its current value to be around $270,000. In comparison, Meghan Markle's ring is valued at approximately $157,460, while Kate Middleton's thanks to its timeless legacy is now worth around $459,000."

Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth first crossed paths as youngsters at the nuptials of Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark to Prince George, Duke of Kent, back in 1934.

At that juncture, Philip held the titles of Prince of Greece and Denmark, with Princess Elizabeth standing as the presumptive heir to the British throne as the eldest daughter of King George VI.

Their paths intertwined once more in 1939 at the Royal Naval College in Dartmouth during a visit by Elizabeth and her family to the institution.

It was during this encounter that the seeds of their future bond were sown through playful interactions, which blossomed into a correspondence that endured even as Philip served in the Navy throughout World War 2.

The year 1946 saw Elizabeth and Philip's commitment to each other solidify into an engagement, although the formal announcement was deferred until 1947, following Elizabeth's 21st birthday.

In preparation for his union with the woman destined to become Queen, Philip relinquished his Greek and Danish Royal titles, embraced British citizenship, and adopted the surname of his maternal uncle, Lord Louis Mountbatten.
