Netflix subscribers have taken to social media to vent their frustrations after it was revealed that Dead Boy Detectives won't be back for a second series.

The show, which is based on the DC Comics series by Neil Gaiman, Matt Wagner, and Malcolm Jones III, follows two ghostly teenagers as they solve crimes in the underworld.

Despite being part of The Sandman universe and receiving praise for its compelling storyline and representation of LGBTQ+ characters , fans are left disappointed as the detective duo's storylines remain unresolved.

Fans took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to express their disappointment, accusing the streaming giant of prematurely canceling another show with a lot of unexplored potential.

One upset fan wrote: "I feel so bad for every single person who worked on dead boy detectives and put all their love into it."

They added: "I hope every single member of the cast has a wonderful career from this tv show. dead boy detectives did not deserve this cancellation."

Another fan sharply criticized Netflix , saying: "Netflix you don't deserve dead boy detectives. You don't deserve anything!"

The disappointment grew as some subscribers suggested that Netflix doesn't pay enough attention to shows with diverse casts, writing: "92% fresh on RT, spin-off of one of Netflix's most successful original series, all four leads are either poc, queer, or both," one viewer pointed out."

Many fans are still keeping their fingers crossed the series could eventually be picked up by another streamer. While another noted: "Dead Boy Detectives and My Lady Jane would have run for five seasons apiece on The CW back in the day, is all I'm saying."

The mothership Sandman series will still continue for a second season, which could boost popularity for Dead Boy Detectives if fans discover there's a spin-off to their favorite supernatural drama.
